Severin, thanks for the report, analysis, screenshots and patch! I agree
that the quality of the icon rendering at the moment is a big weakness.
Christian Giordano is our "visual tastemaster" on Unity and I'll ask him
to review your attached screenshots and comment.

Personally, I'd like to see the icons be even bigger, there's a LOT of
buffer space in the tiles which seems unnecessary.
