I am using a fresh install of kubuntu 10.04 alternate installer downloaded 4th May, 32bit with 2 LG Multi DVD drives. If I put a DVD in, the device notifier pops up identifying the disk. If I open a file manager there is no sign of it. However, if I click on available actions in the device notifier and select open with a file manager then I can access it.
I have created fstab mount points and fiddled about with the automount settings in the device notifier but to no avail.
I suspect this is why apt cannot fetch any packages from DVDs.
