This bug has been rejected because there is no evidence of incorrect behaviour here, everything is working as expected. Your lack of reply just led me to assume, which you have confirmed, that you were experiencing the same behaviour as Sam.
Your card is being named eth0_clashed because the kernel assigned it the name "eth0", which your /etc/iftab file reserves for a different card.
As documented in many places, including this bug tracker, the Wiki and the Forums, you can fix this by adding a new line to /etc/iftab to name the card that's clashing.
Alternately you can remove the reservation for the eth0 name.
