Hmmm.... For some reason the userspace udev process doesn't seem to start up correctly. If I plug in the UPS thingamagick, although the boot process doesn't hang, udev doesn0t kick in either. I'm left with the initramfs devices (e.g., /dev/null permissions are 0660) and no input devices. :-(
