The last time I had this problem was with Intrepid. I have a similar AMD64 Karmic rig running updated from Jaunty and the problem (with the same disk - a similar Samsung - and new at the time) does NOT occur.
So is it the new install and something to do with the Ubuntu.iso file or is something to do with new Samsung dvd drives? .iso files would be my guess. Any .iso files the same in Intrepid as they now are in Karmic?
This bug is alive and well in Karmic
dvd tray does not stay open
Karmic alternative cd cut 12th Oct 2009. Completely new install on all new hardware. CD drive as follows:
