I am interested with the solution how you fixed it. Could you point where that thread was? I paste the "all_generic_ide" at the last kerner line at the /boot/grub/menu.lst then reboot. Then I tried the cdtray closes after I opened it. Martin's solution was good but you have to type the command at the console always. Like to see how the menu.lst was modified. Thank you very much in advance
