I really only get a segmentation fault when I run tuxpaint with no arguments:

***@ubuntu:~$ tuxpaint
Segmentation fault

Here is some more information about my version of tuxpaint:
***@ubuntu:~$ tuxpaint --verbose-version

Tux Paint
  Version 0.9.20 (2008-08-28)

Built with these options:
  Built for POSIX
  Using software surface (no USE_HWSURFACE)
  Using 32bpp video (VIDEO_BPP=32)
  Prints as PostScript (PRINTMETHOD_PS)
  Threaded font loader enabled (FORKED_FONTS)
  Data directory (DATA_PREFIX) = /usr/share/tuxpaint/
  Plugin directory (MAGIC_PREFIX) = /usr/lib/tuxpaint/plugins/
  Doc directory (DOC_PREFIX) = /usr/share/doc/tuxpaint/
  Locale directory (LOCALEDIR) = /usr/share/locale/
Input Method directory (IMDIR) = /usr/share/tuxpaint/im/
System config directory (CONFDIR) = /etc/tuxpaint/

Here is something that I noticed in /var/log/messages the past two times that I ran the program:
Jun 27 08:57:02 ubuntu kernel: [ 472.542532] tuxpaint[4100]: segfault at 3f2eaeb7 ip b7cd3dc3 sp b2100134 error 4 in libc-2.9.so[b7c64000+15c000]
Jun 27 09:07:07 ubuntu kernel: [ 1077.487446] tuxpaint[4689]: segfault at 3ed4d4dd ip b7b97dc3 sp b1fc4134 error 4 in libc-2.9.so[b7b28000+15c000]

Are you running from the menu? Could you run it from the command line
(type tuxpaint) and give us any output?

Is there anything in any of the log files?
