The bug is caused by this line in the prerm script:
defoma-font -f purge-all /etc/defoma/hints/${PACKAGE}.hints

-f is not a documented option for defoma-font. Since dh_installdefoma already provides the necessary removal stanzas, the handwritten prerm should simply be removed.
