preliminary patch

This patch is kind of a hack. It will work for the most part, but it is a UI
only patch and in order to fix this properly I need to change some C++ code. I
will try to do that this weekend.

I'm looking into adding autocompletion, but in the meantime, please try out
this patch and let me know if you guys have comments or suggestions.
