I took the xpi from
 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/8463
 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/downloads/latest/8463/addon-8463-latest.xpi
and replaced it in the package and the bug seems fixed to me.

I made a PPA with the fixed package
 https://edge.launchpad.net/~lucian.grijincu/+archive/lp-392815

Can anyone test it before I contact the package's maintainer?
