In the meantime, a workaround for this bug is to do one of the following:

1. Expand the "Get Software" item in the left panel and choose "Provided by Ubuntu" (or other child item if desired), and do the search from there.
      - or -
2. Choose an individual category that you want to search in from the Departments panel and do the search from that view.

Btw, the next development release of Software Center (that will include this fix) will be at or before maverick alpha 2, due on July 1.
