OK, I have put a patched libx11 package on my PPA.

in /etc/apt/sources.list add:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/arnegoetje/ubuntu gutsy main restricted universe multiverse
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/arnegoetje/ubuntu gutsy main restricted universe multiverse

Alternatively browse the PPA:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/arnegoetje/

Please test the package and report back if it solves the problem or not, or creates new ones.
