Yes I have heard about this issue from Debian users for quite a long
time, however I can never reliably reproduce it. Now you are giving a
detailed procedure to reproduce, I'll look at it more carefully when I
have time.

I have also a few more questions for you:

As edgy's scim-pinyin package uses a peculiar way to set up input method
environment, this step won't give the same results on different systems.
Would you please show the results of the following commands in
gnome-terminal after you log back in?

$ dpkg -l scim-bridge
$ echo $GTK_IM_MODULE

Also, would you please also give the result of the following two
commands?

$ grep "X11/Dynamic" /etc/scim/config
$ grep "X11/Dynamic" ~/.scim/config
