For comparison sake, I gave qemu access to a 2nd hardrive in my system "-hda /dev/sda1" same result as with using disk images..

Selecting previously deselected package libgnomekbd-common.
Unpacking libgnomekbd-common (from .../libgnomekbd-common_2.30.0-0ubuntu2_all.deb) ...
Selecting previously deselected package iso-codes.
Unpacking iso-codes (from .../iso-codes_3.12.1-1_all.deb) ...
