Matthias, do you have any idea why ../apt/package.py was used instead of ../build/lib.linux-i686-3.2/apt/package.py as is used correctly in Debian (https://buildd.debian.org/fetch.cgi?pkg=python-apt;ver=0.8.0;arch=i386;stamp=1306510572).
In any case, later versions build correctly again (in natty and oneiric), so this was probably some temporary problem somewhere else in the system.
