I have tried the following programs to see whether the mic works in each:

Sound Recorder -- works
Sound Properties -- shows little to no input
Pulseaudio Volume Meter (Recording) -- shows input
Pulseaudio Volume Control -- shows little to no input
Skype -- no input
arecord -- works
