Use the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA version, please.

On a fresh Karmic Alpha 5 desktop, I had gnome-terminal and firefox
windows open, no flash player installed and no audio running when a
notification popped up about pulseaudio crashing on an assertion failure
but apport is not configured to report about.
