Actually, it's not -quite- "anything non-text". It's anything in 1bit black and white color, such as most scanned documents. Grayscale or color images are antialiased, but for some reason not the black and white document scans that could benefit the most. They're displayed as eye stabbing crunchy aliased illegibility.
