I wouldn't revisit the "splash" decision now over this missing prompt (especially since the keys still work). We should releasenote it if it can't be fixed before release.
We should also document the boot experience somewhere (if not already available), since hidden tricks are everywhere:
* shift to get to grub2
* add "splash" if you want the logo back
* remove "quiet" if you like kernel messages
* alt-f7 to see messages after boot
and now:
* M/S to manualfix/skip in case the boot appears stuck after fsck
