Marc: I see from your log file that your problem X session started on VT1 just like mine. Even if still related to plymouth I wonder if our difficulties are also related to the situation involved in closed karmic bug LP: #396226. I haven't seen a case of this when plymouth isn't installed, though it happens rarely so it is hard to tell.
