Same issuue as Mark Fraser, no nice plymouth with NVIDIA at LOGIN, LOGOUT works.
with fglrx and kernel 2.6.38-8 it works just for LOGOUT, with 2.6.35-something... it works in both LOGIN and LOGOUT.
