Ok .... here is an update .... i have software raid working on the 2x 500GB drive.

Each drives has:
1) 2GB Raid
2) 490GB Raid (left off the last 8+GB)
3) 8GB free

md0 (2 x 2GB Raid) formated as /etx4 /boot
md1 (2x 490GB Raid) formated as LVM

LVM has -
4GB formated as swap
486GB formated as ext4 as /
