I think this is a huge issue, especially for people coming from Windows or Mac to Ubuntu, and wants to use Ubuntu on their laptop. It's a hassle to have type in a password at every start-up.

I think the best way to handle this would be to have a small checkbox in the password prompt box that says something like "Don't ask for this password next time" and add something about how this might be less secure, and "learn more"-link to a help page. Checking the box makes "available to all users" enabled, as Tor Klingberg suggests. (Or some other solution that let's new users easily bypass the password prompt right after installing Ubuntu).

In some settings keeping this secure is the right choice, but for most users using autologin they choose convience over security.
