Hi Jono,
Hmm, to treat this as an Xorg performance bug, we need some more specific data to go on, although I'm not sure what performance data can be gathered from openoffice. My vague guess would be that this is some intermediate library between openoffice and X (cairo??). But maybe we can just push it upstream and see what they suggest.
But to start with can you please run 'apport-collect 411542', which will attach the various data we need for X.org bug reports?
Also, are you able to reproduce this bug in any other applications besides openoffice? That might help in identifying the cause if it is a shared library or something.
