i agreed with mcdavid's post (#87) 100% .
i.e.

A) notifications that are direct responses to user action (volume, brightness change etc) ought to be back in the bottom centre (a-la intrepid for those that remember. i think it was intrepid).
B) passive "FYI" notifications (in my case exaile and gcdemu mostly) should stack up in an orderly fasion in the corner, and probably for a user-configurable amount of time.

i know the thought police dont like settings, but for me the notifications hang around too long, whereas for people with diminished eyesight they might need more time to discern the message. that's a no-brainer really, although i now dread the possible response of "if they have bad eyesight the setting to make the notification remain longer should be automatically set by the "bad-eyesight profile"... ugh".
