SilverWave, install notification-daemon and remove notify-osd:
   sudo aptitude install notification-daemon notify-osd-

If this wants to remove packages (excluding those starting with lib), abort the process and run "sudo aptitude unmarkauto <packages>" for them. Then retry it.
