No progress AFAIK, see the upstream report in GNOME bug tracker. They're aware of it since duplicates appear regularly. You may still ask them why it's not on the priority list, but they're quite busy working on things like Bluetooth support ATM.
Have you tried setting the connexion for all users, as suggested in the previous comment? At least, that makes this serious limitation less problematic.
