Good point about the driver. If I try to specify iwlagn wpa_supplicant doesn't know what that is.
One more weird thing to mention. I can use wpa_supplicant manually to connect right after rebooting. If I bring down wlan0 and then try to reconnect, it seems to work once or twice and then I can't reconnect without rebooting. Each time I am deleting /var/run/wpa_supplicant/* . I don't know networking well enough to understand what rebooting changes.
