Hi,
I came across this problem, and found some info that might be a solution.

According to the cool guy tracing back to the source, the trouble is that Hardy's Samba is built with the option -Bsymbolic-functions, which was caused by dpkg-buildpackage having LDFLAGS default = -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions.
