@David Siegel Well how about when a user wants/ needs to change the permissions not only of the containing folder but also all files and folders contained within said folder?
The current and only possible way of doing this on a distro using gnome is to use chmod in the terminal!

"Apply permissions to enclosed files" has for as long as I know never been functional in gnome and looks like it won't be for a long time!
