Thanks for this Andreas! I'll double check focal/jammy/lunar and ensure the same behavior is across all the releases.

If a user reboots/restarts the daemon that fixes the problem, but this should be solved on upgrade. I'll add logic to d/postinst to explicitly reload multipathd when upgrading from < this version.

Subsequent installations past this release will be fine because the new prerm handle closing both multipathd and the socket. e.g. sudo apt install multipath-tools --reinstall has no issue, so this isn't a problem going forward, it just needs to be addressed between the transition of having the init scripts and removing them.
