I hope this new information helps in some way. I can confirm that when i use the 2d open-source ati driver with google earth it lags so much that i can´t use it. And if you mean the ati fglrx driver, i can not use the fglrx driver on my laptop because of a 2 second lag with every window i open or close. And watching a movie with fglrx enabled is like like playing a blue-ray disc in a cd player, it won´t work.

I am using an HP 6830s laptop.
