$ cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.1.0-999-generic root=/dev/mapper/ironhide-root ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7

$ xset s activate
Result: without acpi_backlight=vendor display turns black (not sure if the backlight is off or not) and comes back on any activity. Also, I am unable to adjust the display brightness.
