I tested dd times for a large ISO:

sudo time dd if=ubuntu-10.04.4-dvd-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdb
2.6.32-40-server 18:57
2.6.32-41-server 18:42
2.6.32-40-generic 27.68
2.6.32-41-generic 20:24

Given the improvements, and no noticeable regression, and the fact that this patch has been in Oneiric for awhile, I'm marking this as verified.
