I tried 2.6.37-020637rc2, but no joy.

The only kernel I've found that does not suffer from the black screen problem is 2.6.32-21 from the Lucid repository. I tried later versions of that kernel (-25, -26), but they failed too. FWIW, I'm separately using 2.6.32-25 on an e6400 to avoid the black screen after resume issue.

(e6410, Intel i915, A06 BIOS, maverick).
