I suffer from the same error in Lucid (actually, in Karmic as well) on my Acer Aspire 1350. Wifi-card works well on my other machine (Thinkpad A31).
Specs:
Acer Aspire 1350: AMD Athlon 2.6GHz processor, 500 MB ram
Thinkpad A31: Intel P4 1,6 GHz processor, 1,0 GB ram
Networkmanager shows a connection, IP-address gets assigned, everything looks OK. But no data is transferred.
The wifi-card (Asus wl-100ge) does work on the Aspire if running windows.
