This is a truly crappy workaround, but depending on how desperate you are, you may want to use it.
Make sure Fn F6 is switched to webcam on. (The only indicator of that on my u100 is that with most starts, USB won't work).
Make sure you haven't blacklisted uvcvideo.
Restart over and over until you get lucky and the webcam works.
The longest I went yesterday was 7 starts. I averaged 20%.
