Are you sure you're using legacy drivers in gutsy? AFAIK all the rt chipsets are nowadays supported by the rt2x00 project drivers instead, without eg. Network Manager wouldn't work.

The real problem as I see it is that the current 2.0.4 version from July should be upgraded to the latest 2.0.8 to have actual working functionality.
