That would do nothing. The strings checked are either "vendor" or "video". As for the FN keys. It could well be something different between -10 and -11 but also that the asus driver seems to tie hotkeys tightly to the vendor specific backlight implementation. Do you get any message like "Could not register asus backlight device" in dmesg?
