Running the command(s):
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so camorama -r
or:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so camorama -r& (& added to make it a background process)
or:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
or:
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype& (& added to make it a background process)

Worked for me. I've had the same problems since upgrading to Kubuntu 8.10.
I never did try adding the other repository. Is the permanent fix in there?
