I tried it a couple of times both with and without the nolapic boot option and indeed only with the nolapic option set, the system consistently boots correctly.

What bothers me though is that yesterday when I tried just a lot of reboots, sometimes the system (also without the nolapic) booted correctly. How could this be possible?
