BenC provided me with the 2.6.27-rc5 which is what 2.6.27-3 will be.

That kernel resolved this issue on the following notebooks:

MacBook Air
Dell Inspiron 8100
Dell Latitude D620
Dell Inspiron 6400

I tried suspend, hibernate 25 times each all worked as expected.
