I'm not sure that it is the same problem.

Have you bonding?
Have you read changelog of your bios upgrade?

I our case we have message repeated at the console with freeze of all (ethernet, keyboard, ping, bonding, etc).

This is the bessage:

BUG: soft lockup - CPU#1 stuck for xx s! [bond0:xxxx]

No problem with previous kernel (2.6.24-18).
I think this bug is introduced with the new release (2.6.24-19).
