I don't know what the Ubuntu policy is to kernel patches is at the moment - it apparently isn't frozen yet... - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IntrepidReleaseSchedule . Matthew's patch works well for me except every now and then the wifi hotkey will not work (but the sound ones will).
