OK, changed description as requested, will limit this bug to the Intel 965.

Running:

echo 3 > /proc/sys/kernel/acpi_video_flags
/etc/acpi/sleep.sh force

Resulted in a successful suspend, which resumed correctly.

The attached log is from a broken suspend on Hardy alpha 5
