I hade the same problem on my MSi Wind U100 Netbook.
I tried with a CD with the ubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.iso image, doesn't work.
After that I build a bootable USB Stick with unetbootin and the image above and got the same error.

I then changed in bios (version 10G) under Advanced the AHCI Mode from Disabled (default) to Enabled and then the bootable USB Stick works.
