I'm sorry it made further problems with your system. However, in all fairness, what I suggested was the proper way to install nvidia drivers on a fresh install without using the Restricted Manager and this method has worked for me on 19 machines as well as the machines of family and friends - which is why I thought it would be safe to post.
I am still suspicious that the Restricted Manager is somehow causing all this mess.
