I confirm that after installing linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.24-16-generic_2.6.24-16.23ubuntu2, from http://ppa.launchpad.net/stefan-bader-canonical/ubuntu/, the saa7134_alsa module loads without errors and the system boots and works without problems.
