ok, so I take back what I'd posted previously about 8.04.1 LiveCD working properly -- it doesn't.

instead, the Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha-3 LiveCD works perfectly! At least for my SB700 chipset it seems like it'll be fixed on this next release.
