This very same problem has happened to me for some time with KUbuntu Feisty and Gutsy. However, I just discovered that I do NOT have this problem when I use Gnome instead of KDE: USB keys are recognized and I can transfer at USB2.0 speed but only when I use Gnome.

Do the people who reported this problem use KDE or Gnome?
